The end of story - for now

So, typical finnish winter is coming, and this project has to wait for the spring, which feels kinda sad... It was assumed, that we could somehow "finish" this until the nex summer, but we don't have equipment or space to do it anymore. Also can't do anything in the open air during the winter, because in Finland winter means -30 celcius and few meters of snow!

I've planned to continue this project on april or may, depends on when it's possible for us.

The good news are, that we happily found a shelter for it for the wintertime! So right now the car is stored in a small garage - barely managed to get out of it!
This shelter located 20 kilometers away where the car was originally stored, so of course we had to drive it to the new place. We took this drive as a very small adventure, beacuse this project is totally not finished. Earlier we had removed everything else from inside of it, except the front seats. Also, for example, you could see the ground where you normally should not... This picture is taken from inside of the car, where the backseats located:
So, before I could drive, I had to order transfer plates and install front bumper, turning signals and other lights - even though they didn't fit very well. While driving 20 kilometers to the winter shelter we "somehow" noticed - again - that this car is far from ready. Well, now we have few months for planning what to do next, and how to make it better.
As you can see from the pictures, the garage could't really be any smaller! We were very lucky that the car fit in there :D
We really hope that the next summer will be better than the last one! Since we no longer have any hobbies, atleast we have Civic that never works, some beer and also each other :)
Now you finally got to see what we look like, you may rest your soul :D

Frozen

Picture of two frozen Preludes describes project at this point very well.
This might be last blog text for a while.
Garage is in use for diesel Mercedes and today I barely got red Prelude running (-5 degrees of celcius)
Winter is coming and seems like we have to wait for spring to continue the project.

I used to fix a Prelude

Overheating Bastard

Busy weekend behind and we have made some progress!

We didn't have gas in the welding machine, so we took a look at the engine that was still malfunctioning.
Distributor has caused problems before and it was kind of rusted... White Prelude had almost new one and it was easy to move to red Prelude. Same time we switched Distributor cap and the spark plug cables.
Finding fault light of the ECU (engine control unit) was harder than we thought but after cleaning passengers side legroom we found it hidden under all dust, sand and some other sh*t!

After reading trouble codes we fired the engine up and noticed it's working! Trouble code is gone BUT we don't know why :D
Water heat gauge is also working and everything seems just right. But radiator fan is silent and car overheats...
Funny thing is that the temperature in the gauge is at normal level...
Time to study a bit more of this system (I'm a total noob)

Looks like we still have a lot to do!
We also had to switch winter tires to the front because I could not get the car in the garage anymore...

PS: Tästä tulee kohta aika tylsää luettavaa jos en saa tuota konetta toimimaan...
pps: lähtee viinalla t. saana :)

Looks handsome, doesn't it!
Today Jesse and I fitted hood from white Prelude to the red one. It doesn't fit very well yet but just a little bending and it should be good.

Some of the parts were waiting for paint at Jonku. But it's getting too cold for that, so we brought them back for fit-in.
Little peace of shit, aka Civic, has a trailer hitch (I know, very funny) and insanely powerful 1.3 liter engine, ingredients for adventure....
But no, Little piece of shit worked just fine with the trailer, looking stupid as F :D

The engine of red Prelude is still malfunctioning and the list of possible causes seems long.
There is a lot to do for a weekend!

Absolutely nothing to tell you

Today was a bad day. Running prolems (WummmmPaaaWumpaaaaaaa!) and we run out of welding gas again!
Well no gas lets fix engine then.

IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) box witch is probably causing wumppaa effect is harder to remove than I thought.
Removing the engine is one thing I would not like to do at this point. But if I had to do that then we fix lot more than just idle running problem and that is going to cost money.,,,

Solution is simple:

BUY CHEAPER BEER!

Bring me the sledgehammer!

It's been a while since we wrote something about the project. Well, that's because there hasn't been much to write about.
Hard work, lots of cutting, welding and hammering.

Jesse has spent many hours just welding pieces to fender and making it match to its original shape.

And I have lost my mind with techical problems... About them later.
And there is more!

The floormat contained 40 kilos of sand and dust.

But still not ready to give up!

This is epidemic!

So, we are at Rovaniemi. We haven't bought a new Prelude. But somebody else has! Still this is somehow our fault....

The Boring Blog

From now on we have warm garage with lights and better electricity. Time to start fixing holes and rusted spots.

Jesse had hangover but I'm satisfied with the outcome.

Interior mat was very dirty and it took an hour and half and 1000 liters of water and "mäntysuopa". Mat was like a sponge and was soaked wet still after 4 hours.
The rear of white Prelude was nothing but rust. Happily, mine is in better shape. I think this is quite boring blogtext but some of this work is far from fancy, and we rather do something much more fun. Well, motivation is peak level and future is looking bright! Car is running, turning, moving and getting better and better. It still looks sad because of the missing interrior and bumpers. But when I sit in this car (there is pretty much nothing but the drivers seat and steering wheel) and start it up, the feeling is awesome!

We have some progress over here!

Today
Since I crashed this car, just looking at it has been very hard for me. It just made me want to cry. But right now, it looks like we have some light at the end of the tunnel! Still long way to go, but atleast there's not a tree-fitting hole at the front anymore.
I'm really proud of my boyfriend and everyone who has helped us during this project so far. It seems, that I have the best people of the world in my life.
Can't thank you guys enough!

Gettin' chicken wit it

New treble speakers installed to the little peace of shit (adopted from Prelude) look like they have always been there. Awesome!

Smell of burning paint

Sunday, little hangover and sunny weather time for transplant.

New gas bottle for welding mic and Jesse (with few hours of sleep last night) back to work.
After two hours of smell of burning paint and hammering the bar it looked like it should.
Transplanted bar was also little twisted but radiator fit fine and it should do. Some modification and paint next time and rebuilding can continue.

Now some pizza and fresh air with Saana.

Rusted From The Rain

Today our aim was to remove the bar where radiator stands from the white Prelude.
It was the last piece to remove before we can start to rebuild the red one (FINALLY!!). With my luck it started to rain and we had to do something else. The red one was in the cold garage so we removed drivers seat and floor mat for some cleanup (very dusty... and dirty... and dusty...).
Finally the rain stopped and we could continue removing the bar. Spot-welded bar was as hard to remove as it was on the red one last time. Happily nothing is impossible, when you can have one beer and an iron bar!
The bar was damaged a little when we removed it so we had to show some ledge hammer to it. Sadly we didn't have gas to a welding mic and we had to leave it to the next time!
All the body parts we need are now removed from the white Prelude.
Can't wait to start the rebuild!

PS: Jesse I owe you in big time.

Sinä punainen ruostekasa

Vacation is over and our trip to Norway behind. Time to get back to work and continue the project.
Grinder, hacksaw, iron bar and a lot of brute force. Bent front bar where the radiator should "stand" was tough to deal with but finally came off.

Plastic shield that protects the engine from below was stuck, broken and fasted from many "interesting" places. It was also pain in the ass. Days are getting shorter, darker and colder so I hope I can move Prelude to the another garage which is warm and has better lights. From 18 to 21 is short time to make any progress.
Next time we will get the body parts from white Prelude and start welding them to red one. And hopefully start to get things back together instead of tearing down two cars. Now some remppaviini and also something they call laatuaika.

Kesäloma? (Relax take it easy)

So I'm on vacation first time on five years and what I'm doing?
Prelude is not gona fix it self and I have spent two days fixin "ripulikiikku / shaissevick" (EG Civic)
My to-do-list from Sunday:
- Passenger side lights (the ones that set them selft on fire)
- Passenger side door (one that doesn't open from outside and opens when driving by itself)
- Gaugelights (can't see shit before driving over 100km/h)
- New front speakers (because OEM ones are broken and made from paper)
- Speaker adapters (Tein itse säästin selvää rahaa / selfmade awesomeness)
- 1 000 000 km of new wire (mostly because of previous owners and awesome "patents")
- Sound insulation in doors ("Mullon Civicissä kitkarenkaat, kitkarenkaat....")

So after two days, 25 hours of work and 13 beers later I'm almost done. Very tired but somehow very satisfied.

You son of a b.....

Everyday there are surprises some are good some are bad. Today there was bad ones.
After a break returned to project to take a better look of the red one. The engine is running, car is moving that is big plus. Time to look what needs to be done with the body.
Brakes and shock absorbers are fine. Good thing so far.
Removing interior and seats. Lot of cable for the speaker system and some bad surprises.
Hole behind passenger seat...

Hole behind backseat bad... very bad...
But I'm not ready to give up. Next week some new metal and work for Jesse. Now couple of beers and begin to plan how to fix EG:s lights.
